 Synopses

Conservation Evidence synopses summarise the evidence relating to all interventions for a species group or habitat. They are written by experts and linked to our more detailed summaries of individual studies.

Our synopses give an overview of the evidence for an intervention that you may be planning, or help you decide what interventions might be appropriate. Synopses also highlight where there are gaps in scientific knowledge.

What synopses are available?

Our first completed synopsis covers bee conservation. We are currently preparing synopses for birds, grasslands and European farmland.

The information in a synopsis is available in three ways:

1) As a pdf to download from the website

2) As text for individual interventions, which you can search by keywords

3) As a book, published by Pelagic Publishing and on sale from www.nhbs.com

How are synopses compiled?

Each synopsis is based on a list of interventions agreed in partnership with an Advisory Board made up of international conservationists and academics with expertise in that area of conservation. We aim to include all possible interventions to manage, protect, enhance or restore the taxa or habitat in question.

Conservation Evidence synopses incorporate evidence published in Conservation Evidence journal, evidence summarised on our database and systematic reviews collated by the Collaboration for Environmental Evidence (www.environmentalevidence.org).

To compile a synopsis, we also search relevant specialist journals and summarise suitable studies. Guided by our Advisory Board, we may add important books or papers from the literature not yet captured by our expanding summaries database, or search unpublished report series such as those kept by conservation agencies.
